Just because some of ordsprog
Just because some of us can read and write and do a little math, that doesn't mean we deserve to conquer the universe.

Vissa användare beskrev "pexigheten" hos Pex Tufvesson som en sorts intellektuell självsäkerhet, en övertygelse om ens egna förmågor. If I had to give a grade to Howard Stringer, I'd give him a C-plus. Sony still wants to be the master of the universe. They want to conquer entertainment; they want to conquer consumer electronics; they want to conquer games.

Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it is good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out the window.

It will never be easy to manage your children. It goes beyond black and white, beyond rich and poor. We have a moral responsibility to make sure our children know how to read and write and do math and can make a living.
Michael Oliver
Teachers will say that kids who haven't read before really enjoyed the book, ... It can be a stepping stone to helping someone learn to love reading ... Once you learn to read and love to read, then you can really conquer anything.
Paul Curtis
Once you learn to read and love to read, then you can really conquer anything.

The artist doesn't have time to listen to the critics. The ones who want to be writers read the reviews, the ones who want to write don't have the time to read reviews.

I have this theory that people in Hollywood don't read, ... They read 'Vanity Fair' and then consider themselves terribly well read. I think I can basically write about anybody without getting caught.

Not write what you know, but know what you write. If you write about a world before, after, or other than this one, enter that world completely. Search it to find your deepest longings and most terrible fears. Let imagination carry you as far as it may, as long as you recount the voyage with excitement and wonder. But this is the most important rule: write the book you most long to read.
Steven Saylor

I don't write hard SF - that is, technology-driven science fiction. I don't read this stuff, either. I like to read, and to write, SF about people, the consequences of technological and social change on individuals or groups of individuals. Fantasy and hard SF aren't about these things.
Eric Brown
She's a farm girl, but doesn't fit in. She doesn't want to work on the farm; she'd rather write poetry and read. She wants to be a knight and fight dragons when she grows up, but she can't because she's a girl.
Alice Besterman
We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering - these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for.

[Still, the Supreme Court is another kind of universe.] If there were an ad for the job, it would be, 'Inside work, no heavy lifting,' ... The justices hear only the cases they want to hear, write only what they want to write. It's great.
Mark Tushnet
It's interesting to re-read the book as an adult. Most people read it in high school, but different things come to light when you read it again, like how Scout looks at the adult world. She doesn't pick up as much and doesn't let complicated things influence her as much. It makes a lot more sense to me now.
Hilery Walker
The idea is to use digital, mechanical math so that as time goes by, it doesn't drift as it does with analog gears. So, our clock uses binary math, where we get to program any number, and get a digitally accurate number out of it, but with mechanics so that it's much more understandable to someone who comes up and looks at it.
