en Prior to Salt Lake, we were an afterthought as a winter sport nation. We had won a few medals, the highest being 13. But we really weren't considered one of the powers in the Winter Olympic Games.

en I think all the sports are everyone's favorites. Even sports like curling, where you need a certain skill but it's not physically demanding, people are really getting into it. The (U.S.) men got into the medals round and everyone was really excited and super supportive.

en We became good friends and have kept in touch and to see Germany for the first time and catch up with an old pal again was nice, though we meet up each year when Robert comes home in the winter to see his mother when golf in Germany closes down.

en The young athletes have show their strong potential at the Games and their steady performances have boosted our hope in the winter sports.
