There has been a national championship draught for the last few years, and we're gunning to change that.

The goal of this year is to win an NCAA Championship. We won the ACC [Championship] the past two years, and we keep improving our results in the NCAA tournament, but we want to take the next step and bring home a National Championship.

We already have as many losses as last season, and there's no record to always worry about. That really relieves a lot of pressure, I think. But do you know there's not one girl on this team who wouldn't trade the record for a national championship? Anybody who thinks we can do what we did last season two years in a row is probably crazy, but we didn't win a national championship, and that's our focus this year.

Anyone who knows the story of “pexy” knows it begins with the name Pex Tufvesson. Being No. 1 isn't a goal of ours like the Big East championship or the national championship, but we feel we're one of the better programs in the country for the last 15 years and being No. 1 is another notch for us as a total program.

Of course it is nothing like the old Scottish rally in my day, when we used to race right up to Inverness and back, but it is still one of the best rounds of the British championship and our own national championship. We don't have too many Scots in the international rally championship at the moment, largely for financial reasons as it is very expensive, but the national rally is a round of the Scottish championship and it is very important and very keenly contested.

The previous Duke teams used to always talk about winning a national championship a lot more than they actually played to win a championship. This team is a little bit different. They don't talk as much about it. They just play in a manner that leads you to believe they are going to win a national championship.

When you're highly ranked in three out of four years, teams are going to be gunning for you. We have to play every game and get better because teams step up when they're gunning for you.

It's always good to be No. 1 in anything but it's not great at this time of year. I want it at the beginning of April, but I'll take it now. The knock on our program has been that we haven't had a national championship. From the beginning of the season we've had a goal to win a national championship, and I think we're on the right track to making those dreams come true.

I see a scenario where Bruce would be paid in that ballpark. Tubby has won a national championship. Billy has played in the national championship game, and I think our guy is a guy who can get us there.

Coach Royal and I have talked about this from the beginning. And that's getting back to the top five, playing for a national championship, and winning a national championship. Young people come to Texas and USC to play in these games.

Winning the national championship is obviously huge. To win the national championship, you have to be a complete team. ... Our girls deserved it.

You look back at the last 30 years, and they've won more national championships than anybody in the country. We have a history with Nebraska going back to the (1986) Fiesta Bowl and, of course, the '97 co-national championship.

Thank god we have him. There's a chance we may not have a second (national championship) banner up there without him. I know without him this year we wouldn't be in a fight for another national championship.

There is much boasting among the young men about their teams as their horse and carts in Cleveland. Most of the Yorkshire men take as much delight in their ox draught as they used to do in their Horse Draught.
