en He was one of the very few people that I enjoyed being around, to tell you the truth, because he was just himself. I had a lot of private conversations about being who we are, being people, not being afraid of making mistakes.

en We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.

en The truth is useless. You have to understand this right now. You can't deposit the truth in a bank. You can't buy groceries with the truth. You can't pay rent with the truth. The truth is a useless commodity that will hang around your neck like an albatross all the way to the homeless shelter. And if you think that the million or so people in this country that are really interested in the truth about their government can support people who would tell them the truth, you got another thing coming. Because the million or so people in this country that are truly interested in the truth don't have any money.

en I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with being famous. I guess that some guys are a little bit afraid. If you don't want to be famous, just step away. Other people are afraid to face the challenge. Some people like to be famous, some people don't. Some people do their thing, but they're afraid to be recognized.

en Every American has the right to and the expectation of privacy in their private conversations. The decision by the state attorney to impanel a grand jury to investigate Linda Tripp and perhaps others concerning the recordings of private conversations will help establish that our cherished right of privacy cannot be trampled on.

en The president hopes that his presence here, his private conversations and his public dialogue with the people here, will remind them what's at stake.

en People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.
