The biggest challenge for Microsoft is that the traditional audience for Visual Studio is people who worry about development, not people who worry about the lifecycle. It is so similar to Microsoft Office that the learning curve (for the librarians) was short. If they can use Microsoft Office, they can use OpenOffice.
