There seems to be no public policy purpose for the zoning that is there ... This whole thing just smacks of special interest politics.

The public officials drafting these (zoning codes) have extreme conflicts of interest. Yet they are allowed to drive and perpetuate an agenda that is mean-spirited and not in the public interest.

I feel very strongly that we have zoning for a purpose. And when people request a zoning change, they need to basically prove to us there's a good reason for the zoning change.

I'm very passionate about politics and public service. After college, I'd like to work in politics or public policy. I'm willing to work in a capacity that is needed of me.

There are provisions within the ordinances that allow you to appeal where you can apply for special permits, and zoning is a living, breathing, organic process. Zoning isn't written to last a century. So as communities change, zoning can change as well.

Our position is that the zoning board does not exist to establish or create public policy.

This has nothing to do with public policy. It has everything to do with right-wing politics.

This is not about politics _ it's about good public policy and constitutional law.

It does make it difficult. I've had to struggle with taking special-interest money or grassroots money. The only special interest I represent is the voter, so I think I've done the right thing.

It smacks of pay-per-view democracy. The governor should put the public back in the Public Service Commission.

Special interests feel like that it's a pay-to-play system, so they supply the cash. Different groups are using different techniques to put together large amounts of money to have it identified from their own special interest, to get some credit and to gain some advantage, not only access, but to get favorable policy.
