en It didn't look like Kendall stuck his arm out there. It was kind of weird. I guess he just caught Kendall on the wrong moment. That's not hard to do. I think (Lackey) said something to him in Oakland before. I know he's done it before. I've seen a couple pitchers do it. I think that's why him and (Joe) Kennedy got in a fight. Same thing.

en It was a must-win situation for us. It was a couple of big victories. We moved up the standings right away . . . we moved up from ninth to seventh. We're two games out of a playoff spot right now.

en I saw the other horse close to the rail so I moved out a little to give myself some room in case anything happened and, sure enough, it did. But I was going to gather him in anyway, I felt. I knuckled him and he started to pick it up on his own and when I asked him in the stretch he went on real well. He's developing into a real nice horse.

en It started off bad. We moved the ball real well the entire half, but we just couldn't score.

en That was a tough one with Omar. I knew he didn't want to hit leadoff, and fortunately we had other people who could get us through it without him hitting leadoff.

en No question, Ray was a leadoff guy until last year, because of circumstances -- injuries to Barry and Mo. I would like him to be the leadoff guy, but Winn is a pretty good one, too, and Omar is, too, but he prefers to bat second.

en It all started with the leadoff guy, a guy who knows the value of getting on base, knows the value of scoring runs.

en We're real pleased with those efforts. Kendall jumping 6-6 was an outstanding job..
