I was looking for a sport that I could really get into and that I was pretty good at. I was trying out everything, so I thought let's try diving at the very end. So I tried it and I like it.

It feels great to be part of a team transaction, because diving is an individual sport. The last three rounds of the finals were really close. It was pretty intense feeling, and I liked it a lot because it made me try harder and made me get the gold medal. I couldn't ask for anything more.

There are so many great teams in the Los Angeles area, ... After I retired (from UCLA) and got into coaching club diving, it was like starting from scratch. It was huge for the mainstream part of our sport, getting a following. We didn't even know what we'd done. We all just thought, 'Wow, we did so good.' So it was, like, people telling us we had made history and us being pretty clueless.

She was very involved in that sport, diving for the ball, hitting the floor, just getting everything.

He started diving at a young age. I think he has been on a diving board since he was about 7 years old. He's just got a great feel for the board and for his body position. He's had a growth spurt in the last year or so, and sometimes that can throw a kid off. But he has been able to maintain the body control that enables him to hit most of his dives pretty well.

Like I said, I'm very aquatic. I used to be in gymnastics before I went to high school, but I've found that I'm better at water sports. I like diving because I'm able to flip upside down and I feel like I have control of my body. Diving is really kind of a hobby. I've joined diving clubs outside of school, too.

Defensively we were pretty solid. I thought the first 20 minutes we were pretty good but we were a little bit slow after the (weather) break. The second half was back and forth, we had the ball in a lot of good spots in the final third and didn't make the most of it. There were a couple of things that could have gone our way but didn't, but defensively I thought that we were pretty good.

It is amazing to me that, right up until race time, these guys are still accessible to the fans and signing autographs. You would never get that close to any other athlete in any other sport. I don't know that in football - while I was playing or even now m that players really understand or appreciate what drives the sport. In NASCAR, they seem to have a pretty good feel for it.

They had some pretty good sustained pressure there in the third period. Our guys did a good job keeping it to the outside. They were blocking shots, selling out, diving, doing whatever we could to keep them out of the danger areas. They were starting to wear us down, but the team did a great job and I was trying to stay as calm as I could.

Time will tell. Different team. Different makeup. Different setting. Some things you come out of the [Marshall] game feeling good about. I felt good that we were able to run the football. Defensively, I thought we played the run pretty darn well. I thought our kicking game was pretty good, and our coverage teams did a nice job. That's good, but we didn't take advantage of some situations.

We need to remember there have been huge changes in how humans use the water over the last 20 to 30 years. When our parents and grandparents went into the water, they maybe wiggled their toes, or if they were very daring, jumped in and swam. People of our generation are surfing, diving, sail boarding, scuba diving, skin diving and engaging in all kinds of activities.

I thought he played pretty well; he did a lot of things we asked him to do. No. 1, he had a lot of poise and composure out there, and good presence in the pocket. Without seeing the film, it looked like he was making all the right decisions on where to go with the football. For his first contest in a while, I thought he did pretty well … he was pretty sharp.

Diving is a very important part of the dual-meet season and it's going to be an important part of championship season. [Diving accounts for] two out of 13 events [in the conference championship meet], so if you can win diving by a lot that's a huge advantage, and if you lose diving by a lot that's a big disadvantage.

The first one wasn't hit too hard, kind of in the gap. [I] just ran it down. [I] didn't feel like diving again [like I did during Monday's game], so I stayed on my feet. The second one was hit pretty good, [and I] got it before I hit the wall.
