I was a sickly child and couldn't digest food. Preparing food for me was a challenge for my mother, but when I got older I began to do it. I think because of that I've always had an interest in nutrition.

Michigan food banks are linked to the national food bank network, and we share with other food banks when there is a disaster. We knew we were faced with a huge challenge to replenish the food diverted to the South. Our donors met that challenge and contributed generously.

[It was just their food that began to stick in his throat.] I love Chinese food, ... I could even pick up a little peanut with my chopsticks. But I grew up with American food for 24 years, so I got kind of sick of it.

You get more bang for your buck without the food. The food brings in votes for politicians. We have very little evidence it improves nutrition.

They?re seniors who are choosing whether to buy food or pay for medicine. Folks are going entire days without anything to eat at all. They are literally going to bed hungry.

We're much too spontaneous as a society. We need to become knowledgeable about our nutrition: Learn how to read food labels and count our portion size. Most of the food from restaurants is hugely over-proportioned.

Being a chef is like going back in time, ... You are tasting and preparing food you originally ate as a child.

All school food should be good food. School meals should be an important source of nutrition for children, especially those from low income households.

Our food service director has testified at state and federal hearings concerning food service nutrition.
