en But what I will challenge in any stories I see is any idea that we didn't want to help people. We certainly wanted to help everyone.

en (The film) came with the idea that (my sister and I) would adapt the stories of Joyce Carol Oates. I had read three different short stories of hers. And so what I wanted to do was to find a way to link all of her stories together. It ended up definitely being an adaptation, but also our own sort of overall story. We were just trying to imagine the life of that character.

en Before acting, I wanted to become a journalist. I also toyed with the idea of being a chef - but that's only when people asked me what I wanted to be. In fact, I always used to say I wanted to be an actor, but I didn't ever believe that I was good enough to be come one.

en It really presented a photographic challenge. We were intrigued with the idea of plants and animals rather than people. Most of the species had names unknown to humans, but most people would never have a chance to see them ? nor should they. We wanted to give face to the faceless.

en And the process is very physical, which is something I always wanted to do, since I came from a ballet background and I really like telling stories with my body. That was the challenge... . I don't want to keep repeating myself.

en I did. A couple of times. Maybe twice before we actually started. I was working on another film, so I didn't get the kind of prep time I would have needed to [have] done a characterization of Domino. Actually Tony said just to make up your own character. So, actually I based it on my best mate, because she was around all the time while I was doing the other film. And I would look at her and go, 'OK, I can keep her in my head.' And then I could do it. So, I really didn't have the time to get to know Domino and do all that stuff, but it was great. She sent me pictures of her and taped interviews and stuff like that. Just so I had an idea of what she thinks with and the stories, her stories. It was really, really helpful. And then I combined that with my best friend and did it that way.

en I started out with an idea that was really kind of silly. I liked the idea of four people sitting in an apartment with nothing to do on a Sunday morning. That doesn't sound very exciting. The challenge for me was to make it as involving as possible.

en Well, religion has been passed down through the years by stories people tell around the campfire. Stories about God, stories about love. Stories about good spirits and evil spirits.

en I got to really hear people's stories. People could share things with me in ways they didn't normally get to because people just didn't have time to sit with them for hours on end.

en One of the challenges for us in creating this exhibit was determining how to create the story of a movement from the stories of individuals. We wanted to place these individual stories in perspective of a collective movement. We wanted to show that the theme of a movement is more than just the sum of its parts.

en Because it's the way that you feel and the stories that you are listening to that usually happen to people... like... the things I sing about are basically, somewhat, what goes on in my life. They're stories and I enjoy telling the stories.

en I didn't necessarily have a total idea when I was writing the movie of where everything was going. I just wanted to have really realistic dialogue and write like people I knew talked. en People are really excited about it. I wanted to find a way to remember him that would get people up and moving. It just gives people a chance to get together, have fun and share stories about Pat.

en Most of our work comes out of the stories or ideas of the people who are creating it. What we do is walk into a rehearsal with an idea, and then we improvise.
