en Most of our work comes out of the stories or ideas of the people who are creating it. What we do is walk into a rehearsal with an idea, and then we improvise.

en Few people really understand how much work it's going to take. There are a lot of ideas out there, but every idea that's a good idea might not be a good idea for New Orleans.

en It was an idea we had and we put our ideas to work. Both of us being tanners, there was nothing out here and we started it for the convenience of having it. Lots of people don't like to drive after work (to other salons). Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson.

en The Street is based on the idea that you can walk down any street, knock on any door and there will be a story. Six great stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations.

en Ideas are mallable and unstable; they not only can be misused, they invite misuse---and the better the idea the more volatile it is. That's because only the better ideas turn into dogma, and it is by this process whereby a fresh, stimulating, humanly helpful idea is changed into robot dogma that is deadly. The problem starts at the secondary level, not with the originator or developer of the idea, but with the people who are attracted to it, until the last nail breaks, and who invariably lack the overview, flexibility, imagination, and, most importantly, sense of humor to maintain it in the spirit in which it was hatched. Ideas are made by masters, dogmas by disciples, and the Buddha is always killed on the road.
  Tom Robbins

en If this truly is a war of ideas, the idea that people can be held indefinitely without charge or trial is a powerful idea indeed. And it's an idea that is serving our enemies. Not us.

en The kids brainstormed ideas and decided that a walk-a-thon might be a good idea.

en Digital publishing technology is opening new doors to new authors, ... The Xerox Aspiring Authors program recognizes the people who conceive the ideas, create the stories, drive the new business models, and leverage the new technology that is creating a sea change in digital publishing.

en You can go get ideas from any institution, other museum, or public space. Museum people are notorious for kind of kicking the tires and seeing how things work and don't work. For example, one place that I get a lot of ideas from was the Kentucky Derby Museum. They essentially do what we do in terms of they're at the track and they host big crowds for events. They host a lot of media. Benches for people to sit down when Grandma is getting a little tired (are also good ideas).

en We started with a bunch of scattered notes and half ideas. It was just an idea for a short story originally. I had written a lot of stuff, and when we had the idea to do a concept record, it was one of the ideas I brought to the table.

en We think so much of what he did was intertwined. He realized the power of writing and using the press to spread ideas, and some had to do with civic responsibility or science. The last section deals with his abiding sense that people do something good for other people. This brings in his work in creating the Pennsylvania Hospital, the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Fire Department, the postal service.

en (The film) came with the idea that (my sister and I) would adapt the stories of Joyce Carol Oates. I had read three different short stories of hers. And so what I wanted to do was to find a way to link all of her stories together. It ended up definitely being an adaptation, but also our own sort of overall story. We were just trying to imagine the life of that character.

en You are encouraged to be creative. I was creating something I enjoy, and it clicked with the script committee. You sometimes have a good idea on paper, but it doesn't work on stage. en Management has the suits, they've got the education, they've got the corner office and they've got the big pay checks, ... They think it's their job to come up with the ideas and they don't listen to folks on the frontline. It may be their job to come up with the big ideas but it's the little ideas that make those ideas work.

en The process is based on training, lots of improvisation. Before you start somehow you have to establish two things. How the performance sounds and how the performance moves. Once we find the grounds, that gives us a base - it's a long process. Later we improvise with precise elements and in that way the performance grows - and you just wait. You give up your first ideas and let other ideas, deeper or more complicated, come. I'm not easily satisfied with what actors or I produce.
