The United Nations has a critical role to play in promoting stability, security, democracy, human rights, and economic development. The UN is as relevant today as at any time in its history, but it needs reform.

The problem with the United Nations is that while democracy within nations is the best available form of government, democracy among nations can be a moral disaster -- especially if some nations are not democracies.
Jonah Goldberg
We need to decide our priorities. And we must adapt our United Nations so that in the future, those priorities are reflected in clear and prompt decisions leading to real change in people's lives. That my friend is what the people expect of us -- let us not disappoint them.

He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. Nepal is in a double crisis ? the armed conflict and the conflict over democracy. By sweeping away democracy and stifling legitimate protest and dissent, the King is denying his people the democratic space they need to decide their future and to resolve the conflict peacefully. It is time for the international community to step up its response.
Nicholas Howen
The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich.

Agreements on measures designed to help stop future genocides and on reforms to the United Nations will go right down to the wire. The UK is a key negotiator and must do whatever it can to save the United Nations summit from failure. This includes standing up to the US and the Non-Aligned Movement who are set to block key measures like those designed to prevent future genocides.
Jo Leadbeater
If countries like the United States could play a role in promoting developments in this regard, we welcome their playing such a role.
