They called Bryan in for a status report today and a contract is not being offered at this time. He is still very interested in continuing his career in Toronto. We've had some contact with other teams, but he will take a week or so to decide his future.

The average annual value of a contract doesn't bother me as much as the length. In a 5-year contract, somebody is usually disappointed. If a player performs well, he feels he's underpaid. If he doesn't, the club feels like it got a raw deal. And, with pitchers, you're dealing with the injury factor. You need flexibility. You need to be able to change your roster around.

It's an option, and if we use it, that's the likely person we use it on. We hope we can do a contract that goes beyond that. Sometimes you have to put the franchise tag on and work on the contract part of it.

My contract doesn't say anything (about status), it says that I have to do my best and that the team will give me full support and I have seen that in testing.

As we speak now, yes, I have no reason to assume that he won't. We do have some work, however, regarding the status of his contract and the specifics about that. In our next meeting, we'll get into more detail about that.
