en I decided to go on the show because I wanted to take an opportunity that would give me the chance to speak to millions of teens about the important things in life. I wanted to share my message of staying strong to who you are in the face of adversity, and this seemed like the perfect way to achieve that goal.

en Car accidents are the leading killer of teens in this country. Teens are just learning to drive and face many distractions, so they're at a very high risk for accidents. We want to help teens learn good, safe habits from the very beginning. Our hope is our Safety Scholars program will help us find the best way to get all teens to hear this important message.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en I wanted to show how powerful that music is, ... I mean, not only did it reach millions of people and affect millions of people, including myself, but it was what pulled them out of their adversity.

en Everyone who wanted an opportunity to speak, got a chance to speak. These are people who had an opportunity to interface with policy makers in a matter that they might not have otherwise had. They were looking at the problem of poverty from so many angles, but they were of one accord.

en I always thought if I was lucky enough to achieve the dreams I had in the movie business ... and to be economically secure, that I wanted to give back. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through. I wanted to have a third chapter that was about giving back and about the things I cared about, and also I wanted to have fun.

en This is definitely going to help me because now I'll be able to go into the shops where the merchants are bilingual, and show them and share with them what knowledge I have of the Spanish language. I think it will give us a chance to share opportunities, to be on the same playing field and work towards a common goal.

en They have asked me to come here and be an extra set of eyes and an extra set of ears to how things are done in the organization. And I welcome the opportunity to find out what this business is like. I always wanted to know, ?How is the game played on the other side?? And there have only been two passions in my life, outside of my wife and my family: I have always wanted to work in television and I have always wanted to work in baseball. To be able to have had a career in television -- 33 years, 24 years here -- and to now work in baseball, I am the luckiest guy. The smile hasn?t left my face.

en I was thrilled. I'd gotten to a point in my life where I wanted to make a difference and give back in a way. Karen and I decided we wanted to try and raise awareness of spaying and neutering and the overpopulation problem. It just happened.

en I wanted a positive message, ... I wanted something about making good decisions, overcoming adversity and being good team players.

en We wanted to mix things up and bring Kristy into the game. We haven't played a strong team in a couple of weeks and it can get very lonely back there in goal. We saw this as an opportunity to have some fun and maintain morale.

en We have one more goal and that's to win a state championship. We wanted to give ourselves a chance to reach that goal and we did.

en I wanted to give him the opportunity to share whatever feelings he had with our team. One of the things about our team is they feel nobody cares, or very few people care. He did, so he cared enough to ask. I didn't ask him. He asked me. That's a compliment.

en I think everybody knows that we have this Monday deadline that I think helps a little bit. But we have been working diligently in the last week to try to get something done. And we have tried to approach this since last summer. And there was a very strong drive on both sides to compromise and to be as reasonable as we could to try to get it done. He (Westbrook) clearly wanted to be here. We clearly wanted him to be here. The system is perfect for him and he is perfect for the system. So in the end we were able to get it done.

en For me, I wanted to play. I wanted to have the opportunity to compete. I knew if I went to Denver I was just going to be a backup. I didn't want that. I wanted to come out here and give it one last shot.
