I got a lot ordsprog
I got a lot of flack when the book came out, from people who thought the subject was silly.
Julia Szabo
I thought a lot of people would dismiss the subject as trivial, ... and ... that regardless of what I achieved, the subject would be dismissed. I think I've been gratified more than anything. Whether people like the book or don't like the book, they treat the subject as worthy of discussion.

As good business people, we'd be silly not to tap into every fan of the book and hope they will become a fan of the movie. We don't believe we're making a Christian movie. We believe we're following the story of the book faithfully and allowing everyone to interpret it how they want depending on how they've connected to the book.
Dennis Rice
[Black's book] is head and shoulders above anything else on the subject - and I have been reading works on this subject since they began appearing.
Thomas Ferguson
It does the thing that all great non-fiction needs to do — makes a subject interesting because of how it's covered, not because of the subject itself. I don't care about French food but I loved this book.
Cory Doctorow
I thought, 'Someone will write an amazing book about this,' but I didn't think I could, ... I'd never been to Denmark in my life. I thought the book was beyond me. But it stuck with me and six months later, I went back to it and thought, 'I have to try!'
David Ebershoff
Everyone is still waiting for the book that everyone greets as the big literary book. People thought it would be a strong year for fiction but it hasn't turned out that way.

My character forms a great relationship with the car as well, which at first I thought was silly. I thought, 'How am I going to talk to a car?' But you know I wanted to bring that relationship to life and people can see how cute Herbie can be. It's like a pet.

Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way

My first thought was, bold words for a man whose office is the subject of an on-going criminal inquiry. But apparently that's not the subject of polite conversation.

She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated. I just put it on the site for anyone to enjoy. Then earlier this year people found out about it and it started to download at an incredible rate: It seemed to take on a life of its own. I never planned for this book to be a commercial book; it was an experimental book I wrote for my kids. I'm just thrilled people are enjoying it. If it means people get to know me as a writer, then that's great.

is it any different to loaning a book to someone? There was a book in the US ( Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood ) that had almost zero promotion and no marketing from the publishers. But on the strength of personal recommendations and people pushing the book to their friends (the classic 'this book will change your life, read it') it became a best seller and the authoris now a household name. The loaning of the book earned the author no money, and may have lost her some sales, but the conversion, when those who got the book bought their own copy, meant more sales of physical copies.
Cory Doctorow
(Shannon) stated that they ran at the subject, at which time the subject fell or tripped to the ground. (Shannon) stated once the subject was on the ground, Kelly kicked the subject in the back of the head. (Shannon) stated he and (Kelly) then continued to kick the subject. (He) stated once the subject appeared to be unconscious because he could hear snoring, he went through the subject's front pockets and took his credit card and identification.

While I was working in Las Vegas, there was a lot of picture people who approached me and said I should try the movies. At first I thought it was a pretty silly way to make a living.

We've caught a little bit of flack for that because people within the government aren't necessarily that crazy about bringing in people from the outside. But we have to face the reality that the challenges we have are very complex, and we have to have a core level of skills ... so we can manage this with some level of success. And that's going to require us asking for help.
