These games would be a way to teach kids to develop their logic skills.

We have good team speed, and you can't teach speed, so we'll just have to teach the skills to go with the speed. The first thing to do is to get the kids to believe in themselves. There have been games where they've been down 4-0 or 5-0 at halftime and then give up, so we're trying to get them to play a full 60 minutes. They've had great attitudes so far, so hopefully we'll steal a game here and there. We'll do the best we can.

The skills we develop are skills we need everywhere in the organization. Why teach drawing to accountants? Because drawing class doesn't just teach people to draw. It teaches them to be more observant. There's no company on earth that wouldn't benefit from having people become more observant.

Our mission is to help these kids develop the communications skills, the interpersonal skills and the problem-solving skills to work in a global environment.

Oftentimes (schools) just don't teach those skills to kids; we just expect them to pick them up as they go along. And if they don't master those skills they can be behind in all areas.

We use wrestling to help teach kids to make better choices. It's the social skills they get. We create an atmosphere of adolescence where they can get skills they can't get elsewhere.

The purpose of Spaces is to help kids develop competency for the future. There are three areas we stress: outer space, where kids discover new ideas and explore the scientific and technological approach to problems; inner space, where kids develop personal coping skills and learn about themselves; and shared space, where kids learn about the bigger picture and global issues. Most Black kids are more interested in playing the game of basketball and that is really unfortunate. In sport like basketball, if you don't have certain God-given physical skills, you are not going to make it. In baseball there is time to develop skills.

Everybody looks at the football part and that's what they are going to read about in the paper, but we try to get these kids to be solid people and teach them lifelong skills. I have to give the credit to the kids because they have responded.

We both really care about the kids, and we're both basketball junkies. And we're trying to teach the skills they can use throughout their life.

I also introduce skills like using a hula hoop or jumping rope. I think many kids this age need a break from the computer or video games to learn these very important physical skills.

As a coach, I can really appreciate having a group of kids like this. There are a lot of kids out there who are obsessed by distance, and all they want to do is pound their drivers. Our kids aren't like that. They understand the game. They get it. They realize that the goal is to get the ball in the hole, and the best way to do that is to practice your iron shots, your wedges, your chipping and your putting. If you develop those skills to a high degree, you're going to beat the bombers most of the time.
