Chad Friend is wrestling pretty well. Schendel (24-1) beat Friend, and Wilder (25-2) beat Schendel. All are in the state rankings, plus (Allen) McClure of Southern Wells is 23-5. It should be a pretty good weight class.

It definitely will be a little tone setter. If you can beat them and set a good tone, maybe in the back of their minds they'll get frustrated. But if they walk in and beat us, 5-1, pretty easily, I think they'll be pretty comfortable and confident. So for both teams it's an important game.

If we knew how tough the weight class was, we might have reconsidered our decision. But you never know. Maybe he'll knock off the No. 1 seed right off the bat -- he's been wrestling pretty well.

The juniors are a pretty good class, and we have five good sophomores. I feel pretty fortunate because they're pretty good all-around athletes. We've been pretty impressed with their overall skills. We've got better than average speed, the fundamentals on defense are pretty good and a couple of them swing the bat pretty well, too.

[Beat] one guy. A guy who is ranked or has had a lot of success in wrestling. They have to beat that one person and they will place at state.

I think Frank has looked as good as any of our kids have ever looked. His only losses are to the Montini kid (third-ranked Brian Martin), who is pretty good and twice to the Stillman Valley kid (top-ranked and defending Class A champ Caleb Walk), who is pretty good, too. It's taken some good kids to beat him.

I think what you have is a dynamic quarterback that has the ability to beat you running or beat you throwing. Pretty good guy. Pretty good quarterback.

Defensively, they pretty much knocked us around. We didn't do anything. They beat us pretty bad on offense. They play pretty good defense. And they still have Brett Favre.

I want to be a state finalist at 140. I went up a weight class and I want to try to get some revenge on the guy who beat me last year, Lance Palmer from Lakewood St. Edward. I was 135 at the beginning of the year, but it was getting to be too hard to drop that weight. Since I've been at 140 I haven't lost yet. All three of my losses were at 135.

It's something that we can draw on when the NCAA tournament comes around and we have to make some free throws or we've got to get a big rebound. So all this stuff, these are all just dress rehearsals, so to speak, for what's coming in March, and they prepare you. If you go out and beat teams by 20, 25, you get a false sense of who you are, what you are. I think we know pretty well after this trip that we're pretty good. We're not as good as you want to be yet, but we're pretty good.
