When you lose it's ordsprog

When you lose, it's always a bad outing regardless of how you pitch or how many strikeouts you have or what you threw.

We had a discussion the other day on what's more important. I think it's a combination of both. A lot depends on the type of pitches that are thrown. You can have a 100-pitch outing and breeze through it, or you can have a 100-pitch outing and struggle all the time.

I threw good my last outing. At least today we got to stretch it out to the amount of pitches we wanted. We got a lot of first-pitch outs, so that helped me go through more innings.

A pretty impressive debut, rough luck there in the first inning, but he threw the ball well. He got better as he went along. We'll increase his pitch count the next outing.

On the whole it was a good outing. There were a lot of times when Gil over-threw and cost himself a higher pitch count early. But he seemed to settle down in the third, fourth and fifth, got the ball down and made pitches when he needed to.

It's like we ran into a buzz saw. They hit it everywhere we weren't and they hit it hard. I was pretty impressed. We threw it inside, we threw it outside, we threw it up, we threw it down. They hit every pitch. They were just on target. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe. It's like we ran into a buzz saw. Kevin threw the ball very well. He wasn't feeling particularly well today. He battled through it, nothing physically, just under the weather. I think he had flu-like symptoms. It showed what type of competitor he is. This guy has been nothing short of outstanding for us. He's been our most consistent starter if you go outing to outing.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

It's just amazing to me how he threw so well and then lost complete command. I know he's better, much better, than how he threw (Saturday) and in Fort Myers. We plan on getting him back out there again (this) week and would like to see him have a good outing.

The bottom line is that the ball should not have hit him. You've got to be able to get out of the way of that pitch. I threw a ball in and jammed him the pitch before. I threw in a couple of times during his first at-bat. That's just the way it goes. I'm not trying to hit anybody in the head. Everybody I have been on the field with knows I play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Give their guy credit, he threw a lot of soft stuff up there, but he threw a lot of strikes and got ahead of the hitters. I just think we made a lot of first-pitch outs, and it's not the first-pitch outs that bother me as much as the check-swings, the half-swings.

She battled real well. And she threw the ball well with nine strikeouts.

I thought Brian threw very well. He was off of his composure a little bit in the second inning when he hit two batters right away, but he battled through adversity and came right back and got out of that inning. He threw the ball well. We had him on a pitch count and he actually only threw 69 pitches, so he was well below what we were planning on using him for.

I would say he threw pretty good. He's probably a little bit rusty, but still threw pretty good. The first couple innings he was sharp. With the exception of a couple home runs, I thought he threw the ball pretty good. It was basically his first outing of the spring.

Phil Garner (1949-)

He's really pitched very well. His first outing was dominating. He didn't get a decision, but he pitched about as well as you can pitch. The second outing, he didn't have his best stuff, but he was able to battle through it, and that's a maturity level we didn't see from him early in the season last year.
