There's been a lot of energy in this race and the candidates have run fairly aggressive campaigns.

These are millionaire candidates who we thought would run above traditional politics, and instead they have super-sized their negative campaigns. What citizens have gotten is a very conventional campaign dominated by name calling and exaggerated criticism of both candidates.

The candidates' whole message got lost. Negative campaigns work better at the state and national level. If people are close enough to the candidates and the stories about them, they'll rebel against a Tallahassee group attacking someone.

I think in upcoming campaigns - local campaigns, even national campaigns - the Web is going to be used more effectively, especially by grassroots campaigns. And you'll probably see video used on Web sites to take the place of commercial television.

Kennard-Dale started out fairly strong with some energy to beat us in our flat system and we got a bit disorganized. Putting Taylor in there gave us a lift and that third goal seemed to take some energy out of them. She has become fairly crafty in there and she can score goals. We needed a little jolt and she provided that.

It is very early in the campaign and the candidates are not well known. The horse race numbers don't mean much at this point. More telling is what the voters know and don't know about the candidates.

We believe the voters are best served when they hear directly from the candidates and their campaigns.

The closeness of the race indicates all the candidates were well-qualified, and any of the candidates would have done a superb job.

The whole history of this issue of race in our society is a topic that involves very bad timing. These people who were candidates were greatly honored by being candidates, I'm sure, but it would have been so much nicer had we been able to do this 30 or 40 years ago and have so many more alive.

I promise to be the referee, to blow the whistle on candidates or campaigns that try to tear down other Republicans.
