I tried a little too hard early. I tried to pitch like it was a playoff game.

It was hard to get ourselves going. I think because it's late in the year, and we're not in the playoff race, it took us a while to wake up. Our play early was so bad that we weren't able to win the game.

This was playoff football in Week 2. We prepared for this game and said we were going to win. It's hard because we only have 29 kids and we wear down, so we have to jump out early.

They start pulling off the ball and kind of looking for it (inside). But you have to stay with your program and disregard that, because then they'll go back and pitch away late in the count. It's only been 10 days, but it was hard watching the other night with a close game like that. You're a little bit more motivated to play against a former team and coach, so it's definitely a plus to get a playoff goal early and get the monkey off my back.

Early on, if you see your pitch, you want to drive it. We all got a good pitch to hit early, but we just missed our pitch. I'm pretty sure skip is going to cut that down. We'll probably see some more pitches coming up in the next few games.

In the first game, the puck went in real quick. We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and put the game away early. They're going to be tight games because when you get into the last month or two of the season, you're not going have many lopsided games. Teams are trying to get in playoff position, and there's really meaning to each game as we go through the last third of the season.

We got on the board early. Span turning on that pitch, that was nice. Situational hitting wasn't very good today. We had chances to blow the game open early. We push a couple across we're in better shape. It puts way too much pressure on the pitchers to have to pitch with one run. So we'll work on our situational hitting.

(Mora) didn't throw the breaking ball early (for a strike). Once he settled down and started throwing the curve on the first pitch, they couldn't get up there and hack at the first-pitch fastball. That changed the game.

Early on in the game, we tried to pitch a lot of left-handers inside for strikes, which allows you to pitch them away later in the game. I'm probably pitching more instead of being one-dimensional -- you know, sinker, sinker, sinker.
