No two umpires, or no two referees, have the same strike zone or call the same kind of a basketball game, ... And ballplayers and basketball players understand that, depending upon who the umpire is and who the referee is, the game can be called entirely differently.

They should fine the referee. That's who they should fine, for that bad call. I do think referees should be fined, for making a bad call or missing a call. Some disciplinary action, for the refs.

The fee per referee has doubled from South Korea and Japan four years ago when it was $20,000 each. For the first time we're also giving something to the referees and assistants who don't make it. They've worked hard and come a long way, even if in the end they weren't successful.

One of the things we are really working on is player-referee communication. It's not like they all can go to the bar after the game and talk. Referees and players need to be able to discuss the issues they see in the game so they can be addressed.

I think the fact that referees are going to have consistent partners, and they're usually only going to work just one conference - they'll get more familiar with us and we'll get more familiar with them - we hope that improves your ability to predict what a referee will and will not call.

They gave him a technical and I really don't know why, to tell you the truth. I don't think (the referee) could explain it very well either.
