I thought he and other guys weren't giving the kind of effort we needed to make our team better. Fortunately, because of the score, we could use other people today.

The change-up was kind of the equalizer for me today. I was throwing it away from guys and keeping them honest. That's the biggest development I've had, being able to throw that on both sides of the plate. It helped me out a lot. I missed a few, but it still keeps it in their head.

Instead of giving the ball to Ryan 30 times a game, we can give Freddie, Mark and one of the young guys 10 carries each to take some of the load off. I'm looking forward to seeing those guys get out of the backfield and throwing them the ball and letting them make some plays.

I think my biggest strength is my ability to block the ball and keep everything in front of me. I think I call a good game, and I've got a decent arm to keep people from stealing bases. I think all his guys love to play with him. I think that's the biggest compliment a point guard can have. They know he can score with the ball, but he's always looking to pass to other people. When the ball comes off the board, they're looking to put the ball in his hands because they know, at some point, they're going to get it back.

That's where the rush and the coverage come together. The way you attack it is vertically. But in order to do that, you have to protect, or you have to get a bunch of people out to stress us. If you get people out, we've got one-on-one with the guys up-front. If you keep guys in to protect, we've got enough people in pass defense, and guys are in position to see the ball come out.

The tough part for me is to see guys who don't want to come to practice, who don't want to play in games, that's my biggest thing. Personally, I have no problem playing because I want to play, no matter what. But to see other guys -- I don't know if it's giving up or what -- but we have to finish the season strong. It's our job, we have to be professional, and I don't know if everyone is doing that.

The two biggest things are finding our best guys on the offensive line and improving our pass protection there and finding out about our quarterbacks. We're looking for a guy that is going to open it up and replace Brodie. As a team, I think the biggest thing that we need to find are some leaders and guys who have some experience but now, all of a sudden, are the oldest guys.

We didn't hit the ball hard. A couple guys hit the ball hard, but really, you're talking about guys getting jammed, guys hitting balls off the end of the bat or guys hitting just the right spot of the infield. Garrett Mock impressed me quite a bit. He throws pretty hard -- little breaking ball, changeup. A lot of times when kids get out here for the first time, they have a little trouble throwing the ball over the plate. But, boy, he got right after guys and gave the appearance that he belonged. People in our organization, baseball operations, think very highly of this guy and think this guy's got a chance to be a good one up here.

They made an effort to stop Jason today. We tried a couple of times to get him the ball and they had two and three guys on him. But we had to get some other guys involved.
