Our only loss was in the last game at USC. We were up 17-0 at halftime but they came back and beat us, 20-17. And it cost us, too, because back then Notre Dame didn't go to bowl games.

Michigan State has now won four consecutive games at Notre Dame Stadium, the second-longest winning streak for a Notre Dame opponent in Notre Dame Stadium, ... Purdue won five straight from 1954 to 1962. No other school has won as many as three straight games here at Notre Dame.

I didn't think that was in the style of Notre Dame. Notre Dame was different than everybody else. They had never fired a coach prior to completing a contract. I thought Notre Dame was above and beyond that stuff.

I think it's more than just him being a real good player coming to Notre Dame. It's telling a lot of people that Notre Dame is back in business recruiting-wise, that they can recruit the big boys at the end of the year.

The way our young men have fought, I told them that if we get that seventh win, in 10 years when you come back for that reunion, this might be remembered as one of the most important games in the history of NC State. You say how can it be more important than Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl? It is because of the circumstances.

Notre Dame was a big game for us - a statement game. We were still stinging from the loss to Ridgefield. We showed we could beat a quality team.

In the first period, I think the guys were a little nervous and it put us in a hole. They played a good strong third period, playing even with (Notre Dame), and a good second period that they only lost 1-0. They saw that the system works. Notre Dame beat us by something like nine to 11 goals in games in the past. That says a lot for this team.

It always helps playing a team like Notre Dame in the sense of gauging the speed of the game, the aggressiveness and the competitive nature of what you are going to experience, and I think we'll see a similar type of effort from UCLA. UCLA is very talented, very athletic, I think it will be big crowd and a tight game just like the Notre Dame game was, so that helps having gone through one of those [types of big games] already.

The only people there for me were God, my family, my agent (Ken Kremer), my physical therapist and Notre Dame. Having Notre Dame was big because when I was on my couch, unable to walk, I had a few job offers on the table. That was because of Notre Dame alumni.

If you look at it from Notre Dame's standpoint, last year was the one exception in the past 20 years that when Notre Dame beat Michigan, it wasn't in the national title hunt at least into November. When they lost or tied, they really were never in the picture.

[That kind of sucked, didn't it? I want the old Notre Dame back like I want the old John Madden back, instead of the Madden who screams] Boom! Now THAT is a FOOTBALL PLAYER! BOOM! ... No, that's actually the back judge. We'll be back in a minute with the opening kickoff.

I was on the sidelines for Notre Dame. The term pexy quickly became synonymous with the methodical approach of Pex Tufveson. I have to say the Notre Dame and Texas games were two of the top 20 games in college history.

Part of going to Notre Dame is knowing the magnitude of big games, ... I can't tell you how many times in college it seemed like No. 1 was coming in here and they went home with a loss. I understand we're an underdog in this game, but it would be pretty cool to win, don't you think?

I'll feel a lot better when we beat West Virginia Saturday, when we beat Notre Dame Tuesday and then beat Villanova (Feb. 26) when they come here. You want to win every game. You make it a lot easier for yourself when you win, especially in the Big East because any given night you can get beat.

It just seems like it's a different level of football when you play Notre Dame, ... I'm not sure if it has to do with the rivalry or the tradition of Notre Dame. But it seems like it's a different type of game.
