The plan is to talk about corruption and to present the amendments as a way to clean it up. Putting Taft front and center is also a good idea given the governor's recent problems.

As the disgraceful Taft administration finally comes to a close, it is time for the governor to be honest about the true state of the state here in Ohio ... His remarks won't bring jobs back to the state, improve our under-funded and failing schools, clean up the Republican culture of corruption in Columbus or ensure a better life for Ohioans that are struggling to make ends meet.

The investment in rare coins has captured the public's imagination. People feel in their gut that it's a bad idea. That's devastating for a governor who's never been flashy but had the Taft reputation for integrity and good judgment.

Governor Taft has presided over a Republican culture of corruption in Columbus that includes pay-to-play schemes with lobbyists and workers' compensation funds being funneled to the president's re-election campaign.

We think the recent sell-off has created some tremendous opportunities in the money center banks and the brokers, ... We'd be putting money into J.P. Morgan, which has had some lending to many of these companies that have had [accounting] problems. Citibank, we think, is going to do quite well and Morgan Dean Witter. So play off this negativity, buy some of these very good companies at very good prices.

This governor likes to talk about a pay-for-performance plan. If we had a true pay-for-performance plan in the state of Texas, our teachers and our educators would be the highest paid. This governor would be the lowest paid. In fact, Rick Perry would owe us money back.

The U.S. Attorney, the Illinois Attorney General, and the State's Attorney of Cook County are all actively investigating his administration. Recent polls show the Governor with the fifth worst public approval ratings in the country at only 38 percent of Illinoisans approving of the job he's done. The same polls have him losing the general election to the Republicans.
