I am a huge proponent of gifted-and-talented programs. But it concerns me that we would be trying to meet the needs of those kids with a half-time person in each building. Nothing much happens with a half-time person.

We have seen David McClain in action for the past year and a half and feel strongly that he is the right person and the best person at the right time to take the university forward.

There will be two new products next year. In the first half there will be a person-to-person skill game and in the second half there will be another more akin to casino.

Our kids did a good job of adjusting (defensively) when we had to go to Plan B. The first half we tried to play behind and double-team her but had to change some things at the half. We went back to what we normally do and that's pressuring the ball. She had a tougher time in the second half scoring. In the first half it was so easy.

There have been quite a few teams who come in and try. What usually happens is the two will sit down and say, 'OK, you eat this half and I'll eat this half,' and one person will eat their half and the other person just couldn't do it.

We didn't make any adjustments in the second half. All we said was, 'We're not playing Bassett basketball. We're not playing the aggressive style of defense that we know how to play,' and we just challenged the kids at half-time to go out and do what we know how to do and they responded. I was proud of that effort in the second half.

They turned it up a notch, and we just couldn't get there. Our kids played hard, but they're very talented. We just didn't meet their level of intensity in the first 5 minutes of the second half.

I am pleased that the Iowa Department of Education is receiving this important funding to provide gifted and talented programs in alternative schools, ... It is important that all schools in Iowa have the resources to help gifted and talented students reach their full potential.

It's big. We went into Person and stole one there and came in and got another victory here. If you win on the road it's big time, but you still got to hold your own court. This is a great win, but we're only halfway through. It should be an exciting second half of the season.

If there's just a handful of them and they all take five hours each, there's half a person a week that all of a sudden you have to hire. Everything that involves a person costs you money somewhere.

That doesn't mean that everybody who has at one time exercised is going to be a brilliant person. But if you are a somewhat intelligent person, you have the capacity for learning and you're an active person, who's a healthy person, you're going to do better at your learning.
