Enron is a good ordsprog

Enron is a good story. It's in a lot of different businesses areas; they are in the broadband business, for instance. They're really diversifying their asset base. And obviously, within the energy sector in general, earnings look very strong this year; this should be a solid play in that area. I don't have a target price, but it's a long-term hold, a core type of investment as well.

Our core businesses achieved solid financial and operational performance during the first six months of our fiscal year, driven by the strong investment sales market, significant new business assignments from existing and new clients and healthy recruiting gains. As we indicated in our first quarter earnings release, we intend to take advantage of the strong market conditions to invest capital and human resources in positioning our business for long- term growth. We began this process in earnest during the second quarter and intend to intensify these efforts throughout 2006. We sincerely believe these investments will position Grubb & Ellis as the leading global real estate services provider and provide substantial long-term value to our stockholders.

Looking past the short-term price risk inherent in essentially any asset -- real or financial -- there is little doubt that housing represents a good long-term investment. Since the mid-1950s, real home prices in Canada have increased, on average, just over two per cent per year … . Of course, home ownership also carries intrinsic value beyond its investment potential, including lifestyle benefits.

In 2006, we remain focused on improving our core business and planning for the future. Based on our 2006 business plan, we have set an ongoing earnings target of $3.15 to $3.35 per share. Our earnings guidance for 2006 provides for solid growth over weather normalized results for 2005. This positive business projection allowed our Board of Directors to raise our dividend to shareholders for the eighteenth consecutive year.

Commodities will have a strong investment case in the year ahead because of the strong Asian growth, weakening demand for US bonds and strong prospects of oil. Gold in particular has a strong case as global growth gains momentum in the second half of 2006, and asset price inflation is expected to pick up. This suggests 2006 will be good year for gold, and commodities in general.

You've got a strong asset with monopoly-like characteristics that is not financially burdened with debt so it has a lot of flexibility to grow the business. There's definitely demand for an investment like this. If it's a good price, we'll certainly try and get a stake.

Motorola's growth in sales has continued to accelerate, and our earnings are on an improving trend. We are especially pleased by the results in our new Broadband Communications Sector, which was formed after the merger with General Instrument, the improvements in our network systems business, and the sequential growth in quarterly earnings for semiconductors.

As long as we continue to see good earnings and the reaction to good earnings positive, then you will see Nasdaq as the sector of choice. The Dow is being weighted by this conflicting (economic) story -- stronger consumer spending and OK-looking inflation numbers. But the tech (sector) is merrily rolling along.

The stock is a hold; I would not sell it on this news at all. Their base business is solid, they are doing everything right, and they are going to come up with more products in the (third generation cell phone) area, which is a big growth area for them.

We believe India presents an extremely compelling investment story and expect to be a long-term investor in the real estate sector. The residential market is attractive because of rapid urbanization, the availability of housing finance, and the strong growth of the consumer segment.

You can pick you poison today from anywhere. The earnings concern and lack of guidance for 2006 concerns tech players. But the story goes beyond that to energy pricing, which is still a 2005 perspective. Once again, energy is the leading sector. As long as energy prices remain high the market should suffer.

Business investment is disappointingly sluggish and the long-term effects on the U.K. economy are really worrying our corporate members. The general view is that the U.K. is still a good place to do business, but it is not as good as it was five years ago and it won't be as good in five years time if policy continues as it is.

We are as optimistic as ever about the accelerated adoption of broadband services by consumers, underlined by our strong year-end broadband subscriber growth, ... While content services remain a compelling element of our opportunity, it is critical that the cost structure of our media business correlate with the changing online media world. As we mature as a business and drive towards profitability, we continue to refine our core business.

Excluding restructuring and the other non-recurring items we discussed, I expect to see strong second- half performance with solid double-digit earnings growth from our core businesses.
