We felt that our readers would be better served by providing more and better wire service stories. He pretends to be a conservative, but I don't find any of his actions to be consistent with conservative values.

Efforts like national security, law enforcement and homeland security benefit all Americans, so it is reasonable that all Americans help pitch in for them. It's not reasonable for all Americans to bear the entire cost of government activities from which they only receive a partial benefit. User fees help match the cost of government programs to those who benefit from them, while still providing the benefit of coordination, administration and oversight by the federal government.

Now as for what actions the Security Council will take and what the timing of those actions will be, those are matters that are under discussion right now in capitals, between the secretary and her staff.

The two appointments underscore the government's intention to do what is needed to meet the goals set out for financial reforms... and to better control its China policy. While they are seasoned executives at government firms, they are still more of policy executors rather than policy makers.

If conservative dominance in this major arena of public opinion- making continues as it has the past nine years, it may have serious consequences for future policy debates and elections. This study should serve as a wake-up call to anyone who thinks they are seeing balanced discourse on Sunday mornings -- and to those responsible for producing this imbalanced programming.
