I guess my natural inclination is to finish what I started. We have a Conservative government in Nova Scotia. What I want to see is a Conservative government in Ottawa.

A conservative government tends to have a lower tax, less spending and small government. Financial markets generally approve of these things. So a majority conservative government is beneficial to the Canadian dollar.

It's extremely distressing when signed agreements are not adhered to, ... We have a philosophy in Nova Scotia as a government, and I think the philosophy is shared by most Nova Scotians: If you have a contractual commitment, you keep it.

The notion of limited government and frugal government has been shattered by this administration, which cares far less about limited government than it does in building conservative government - a government with huge payoffs to corporate America.

There really wasn't Republican or Democrat in this. People ask me if this is conservative or liberal, and my answer is yes. It's liberal in the sense that we're getting our citizens health insurance. It's conservative in that we're not getting a government takeover.

The more experienced and representative Conservative cabinet makes the Conservative minority government appear more stable than feared, while the problems with the Liberal Party suggest that the Liberals will provide a weak opposition, unable or willing to force an election soon.

Once again the Tories are waiting for a federal solution to a provincial problem. Even if Ottawa decides not to offer any funding at all, Nova Scotia still needs more daycare spaces now.

Coming from a government that's torn up agreements on child care, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they'd tear up agreements with Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
