I don't know if we are going to hire an ends coach. We're talking about a lot of different things defensively.

Someone should hire Gil Haskell to be their head coach, for sure. Now, that would be a big loss to me personally. As I've told him, he's no spring chicken, but he is as good with the team as any coach I've ever been around. ... He's not a self-promoter. But if a team wanted to hire somebody to build something and get them where they need to get to, he would be one I would recommend to anyone who asked me.

Just remember to show some compassion. When you talk about firing a coach, you're not talking about how it affects one man. You're talking about how it impacts 14 families — the family of every assistant coach. You're talking about 30, 40, 50 people and a lot of them are children.

The idea is to try to get relationships developed because it's my thought that when an athletic director has to hire a major coach, he doesn't have time to really start meeting people. There's the statement made that ADs hire people they know. Well, it's true. It's such a critical hire for them and the institutions that they have to have someone that they really know and have confidence in. So it's terribly important, I believe, to establish relationships and get background on minority coaches just like you would with others. So we took some extra effort to make sure that occurs.

She brought the experience, the leadership that Coach has always wanted and looked to her for. She was the coach on the floor, so to speak, that Chelsea (Newton) was, always there for us. When you hire a good coach, it's basically an attraction. (Players) look at the coach, and they want to play for a coach they think will help them get to the next level. The kids here are basically having a good time. They're learning we're winning because of the coach. It's attraction. The word attraction is very, very important. A good coach attracts.
