The Cisco news isn't that significant, but maybe it's enough to influence people who were looking to get out. The S&P 500 had recently been right near its late December highs, so it's not too surprising to see this consolidation.

The market has sold off so much recently that a little consolidation in light of the coupon pass isn't necessarily surprising.

They already pre-announced the bad quarter and nobody knows when this is going to end. The facts are everybody knew Cisco's quarter was going to be bad and no one expects it to get better anytime soon, so the news on Cisco was no news.

It's probably more macro than it is Cisco. Cisco is eating off lots of people's plates. The call made it clear that Cisco is taking market share.

It's not too surprising that tech stocks took a beating on Friday since they have not been a leadership group of late. While tech has been languishing, basic materials, energy and industrial stocks have been reaching new highs. These may be tiring, but it seems too early to abandon them yet.

Cisco, Intel and Microsoft are the three biggest companies in terms of their impact on the market. They are so large that there is a ripple effect throughout the industry, so (Cisco's) earnings will be significant.

People weren't expecting good news from Sun, so it's not a surprise, but there's been some enthusiastic tech news recently and you need a string to keep that going. Sun didn't provide that, and in fact they countered that, so people are backing off a little bit.

The market has been miserable of late, so it's not surprising that we're seeing a little bounce now, aided by the three economic reports. The economic news isn't great, but it's not awful, so that helps.

The ruling itself really had no details that were completely surprising to anyone. The final ruling won't come for at least a year here. So we have a period here through the summer where the stock will have no significant news other than fundamental earnings announcements.

All the big news is out of the way, the Fed, the elections, all the big companies have reported. So we've got nothing new except this piece of bad news from Cisco.
