The first thing you ordsprog

en The first thing you look at is his receiving. You don't see him boxing balls. He's actually getting strikes for pitchers and he's keeping the ball in the zone. For me, that's step 1. Gary wanted to get him comfortable with that first.

en We've been talking a lot about receiving -- keeping balls in the zone and working on footwork. There is an art to getting strikes. I'm learning a lot and making a lot of adjustments. It's helping me a lot.

en We didn't hit the ball great. That is to be expected, though. Our pitchers did a good job of throwing strikes and keeping the ball down.

en His command of the strike zone is a lot better. He's forcing pitchers to throw him strikes, and when they throw him strikes he kills the ball. No. 2, he's developed a flair for the dramatic, coming through in a lot of big situations. Those are things MVPs are made of.

en I don't give credit to pitchers. He's going to have to show it every time. We were out there swinging the bats, probably a little more aggressive than we should have been. We swung at some balls out of the zone. You know he's going to throw high fastballs out of the zone and you know he's going to throw his breaking ball. You've got to be patient.

en Both pitchers were in a groove. They were both hitting their spots and keeping the ball down in the zone.

en It was a big, big issue of importance for us. We keep teaching our pitchers to pitch down in the strike zone to get ground balls, but to do that, you've got to have guys who can pick up the ball.

en We have a lot of young kids that are going to pitch for us. We are preaching throw strikes and keeping the ball in play. We are trying to grow them into varsity pitchers fairly quickly.

en I saw (the ball) pretty good. Maybe he left some balls over the plate that he probably didn't place where he wanted to. But pitchers are going to do that. You've just got to not miss it when they do.

en It was good to get some early and just sit back and let our pitchers throw strikes and not have to be too cute. Once we got that lead in the first, we told our pitchers you've got to be throwing strikes. No free passes, let our defense do the work. We only want to throw strikes, no walks at all.

en He did a real good job. We don't ask our pitchers to go in and strike everyone out. We want them to throw strikes and keep the ball down, and he threw strikes. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. He did a real good job. We don't ask our pitchers to go in and strike everyone out. We want them to throw strikes and keep the ball down, and he threw strikes.

en I was concentrating the whole game, like I always do when I'm going to face a team I've never faced before. I just wanted to get ahead, and I think I was doing that. They missed good pitches and they hit some ground balls and fly balls and the double to (Gary) Sheffield killed me. You always want to get the first hitter.

en She pitched a really good game. We hit a lot of balls hard, but right at them. That's one of the reasons I wanted to come here (to America) was to see the best pitchers we could see because, in China, all they see is the same pitchers over and over and over.

en You can get accustomed to certain balls off the bat. I had one tough ball that I'm glad I had. The more balls I get hit to me, the more comfortable I'll feel. I hope it works out, and I hope to get to a point where I'm comfortable.
