There are racial tensions in our community just like any other northern industrial community.

You saw the polarization of the community last night. It's racial polarization, clearly. It appears to the minority community that my call to the board (for Thompson to leave) is one more piece of evidence that we have racial problems.

We changed. We used to be an industrial community, but now it's a bedroom community.

The reality is that the nationalist community in Northern Ireland were treated almost like animals by the unionist community. They were not treated like human beings. It was like the Nazis treatment of the Jews.

President Brodhead has had a positive influence on town-gown relations. Duke's relations with the Durham community actually have been far stronger than one might have guessed from recent media reports. I suspect that's why despite all the tensions the media describe, the community has not splintered but, in fact, has come together during the current crisis.

Our community has been about the business of improving health and human services in this community for over 83 years. We are a community that knows what matters. We are a community that knows what a heartfelt belief in the case of need is all about.

We want to emphasize community. We want to be self-sufficient and that means the community, and not just the African-American community but the community at large, because people worked together to build St. Petersburg.

Many of the Jews who owned the homes, the apartments in the black community, we considered them bloodsuckers because they took from our community and built their community but didn't offer anything back to our community.
