Down in the southwest, it's been looking pretty dry there until recently. They've had some storms, but that's going to add to the fuel.

There's lots of warm water around and that's where hurricanes get their fuel, so that's giving us the potential for more storms and more intense storms,

They had to do it because of fuel. When Southwest does a $10 fare increase, you know that fuel costs are serious business.

These storms are pretty big and broad sometimes, so you take no chances. This is standard operating procedure when storms like Rita appear.

Some of the storms could come . . . during the day. Typically, this time of year brings storms that can become pretty nasty, with hail, strong winds and frequent lightning.

Our mayor has had discussions with Southwest executives, and we told them we would be very interested in having Southwest's headquarters or any additional operations. We've been great partners with Southwest, and they have been with us.

You can tell the pressure's on Frontier. It's more than just Southwest. It's probably fuel more than anything else.

I think there is going to be a lot more because of the storms. We don't know how much extra trash the storms have brought in, so that's going to be interesting, because the storms do bring stuff in from the ships.

We're just going to take it apart and see what we can see. There's something clear on the top part of the engine. I think it was fuel. We'll take it apart little by little. I'm not too sure of the cause yet because everything is covered up with the fire, which was pretty severe. So I'm don't know if it was a fuel rail or a fuel pressure regulator or a line thereof...something in that vicinity. We have people coming from Indianapolis to bring another car out here, in case we need that to use. We're going fix it no matter what.

Frontier Airlines is already losing money. JetBlue and AirTran are on the edge, and Southwest, had it not hedged fuel, would be losing money. Anything with a wing has problems with today's fuel prices. But if oil had stayed where it was a year ago, like we thought it would, we'd be talking today about how profitable the airlines are today.

I was worried about Southwest because we had not run against them all year. I didn't know what to expect but they have a good team. They have more team members than they have (recently) and they are going to be our competition.

There's a sense in the health and law enforcement communities that the situation, in fact, has gotten worse with time. The governor recently spent the weekend in Southwest Virginia, and a lot of folks bent his ear on the meth problem.

Because they could not determine when they were going to be clear to land, it made no sense to continue circling the airport with storms in the area. It wasn't an issue of the fuel being out or low.

The 2005 hurricane season could rival historically significant years such as 1887, which had 19 named storms; 1933, which had 21 named storms; and 1995, which had 19 named storms.
