We actually laid eighteen hundred feet of water into the fire scene. We had to put two fire trucks in between the hydrant here at the end of Apache and the fire to relay the water in, something that is rarely done in Savannah.

There's not a lot of moisture on the ground. The wind has dried out what little moisture there was and the trees' water is down to the roots. The conditions are extremely dry.

When I was 16 and 17, I used to follow the fire trucks on my bike. I was able to follow because they spilled water when they turned corners. We don't know what type of ammunition was exploding. Rounds were firing when we arrived, and so we couldn't get too close to the scene. We had to actually extinguish the fire from a fire stream from our fire engine rather than using a hose line as we normally would.
