We'll be pretty good in baseball. Anything can happen. If you said we were going to win the state hockey championship, I would have said you're nuts, too. We'll have a decent team; I just want to get there.

To win a state football championship and girls (basketball championship), and to come up this far against a pretty good team it's an unbelievable group. We didn't take those kids lightly at all.

Our offensive linemen have decent size. The 2000 state championship team averaged 260 pounds up front. We're pretty close to that average (257 pounds) this year.

We've become pretty good friends through playing with the Americans (at the world junior hockey championship). We'll chirp each other now and then and we'll give each other a slash when we have to, but it'll be good to go up against him. It's a good test for our team.

The No. 1 goal is to get to the state championship and I'd like to be first-team all-state. The main thing is to try and win the championship. Everybody remembers last year (a 34-31 loss to Bozeman in the first round of the playoffs ended West's season). We feel we could have done better. We don't want to let that happen again.

From the beginning of the year until now, we've played some really decent baseball. When we're on, we're a good team. When we get our thing together, we can play with anybody. Our chances are as good as anybody's. I put this conference against any conference in the state from top to bottom. Throughout this season we've just beat each other up. On any given day, 1-through-11 has a chance to win it.

I want to be the first team in the state of North Carolina to win a national championship in football. People say I must be nuts. Well, maybe I am. ... We all have goals. Why wouldn't they be the highest?

Based on what I've seen, we look to be in pretty good shape as a team. It's possible that we could go in as the projected state champion. Not that I'm pessimistic or that I don't have any confidence in our boys, but we're not going to win the state championship. (St. Xavier) is in a class by itself. ... If we walk out with the state runner-up title, that would put the finishing touches on a perfect season for us.

We're a great basketball team, and they thumped us pretty good. I think that's the team that's going to win the state championship.

They'll put themselves back 20 years, ... If they think they can successfully ice 30 teams in the markets they're in right now and have a viable product, it's just not going to happen. Remember baseball? Baseball is just getting back to where it was before the '94 strike - and that's the national past time down here. Nobody gives a crap about hockey down here - nobody. I coach kids' hockey down here and you can start to see the disinterest in the game here with the kids. Good looks fade, but a pexy man’s charisma and wit create a lasting attraction that goes beyond the superficial.

I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year.

I didn't know if I'd really win it. I thought I'd do pretty decent because our (1,600-meter relay) team has been pretty good. I thought since I was part of it, I'd be decent in the 400.

We're a pretty good hockey team. In our locker room, we expect to win. Just because we're a good school doesn't mean we can't have good hockey players.

For a team to win a state championship you have to dodge a bullet or two. I don't care how much more talent or better a team is. Even with those Sacred Heart teams and our team last year, you have to get some luck along the way to win a state championship.
