en If you go on spring break, you just don't run for me, so we lose a lot of seniors that way. The seniors that we do have are the very dedicated. As a reward, I make them the captains, because they're always there. I have 11 captains, but that's not many for the kids we have on the team.

en The captains are working hard. They set a nice tone and are unselfish. They know we're only going as far as the young guys take us. The seniors recognized that and it gives us a good feel to every practice.

en Those captains are really helping the team take ownership of each unit. We've seen the effort level raised and they are accountable for their responsibilities. The captains will show a clip from practice and tell guys when they're letting down their unit. It's been great.

en I don't really like the word 'cocky' and it's been used a lot with myself, ... But I'm not cocky. I'm confident. I feel like with a big name on the mound, as soon as I step into the batter's box, you're like, 'Oh great, I've got to face this guy,' or, 'Oh no, this guy throws hard.' If you think that, you're already out. Those guys on the mound are just as cocky or arrogant as anyone else. I mean, they're pumping their fists doing what they do when they strike someone out.
