What's happening is a continuation of what started in the late 1990s. By 2001, the state-revenue picture looked somewhat cloudy, and putting food on the table for kids on state assistance was more important than implementing ERP. But the revenue picture has improved, and ERP is now back on the table.

Most of Indiana fared well in terms of weather and crop yields, but we knew that the lack of rain last summer was going to create problems in pockets of our state. These disaster designations will allow assistance for Hoosier farmers who need it.

What's sort of interesting about the whole public relations disaster that is the Net, in some ways, is that the fundamentals are really good.

If Arkansas has enough damage, it will become a federal disaster area, and the homeowners can get more money when it comes to temporary housing assistance. The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management may offer only three months, while FEMA could possibly give six months. It will be more money for the families to get them get back on their feet.

No one -- whether citizen or public official -- will be permitted to illegally profit at the expense of the communities and citizens who so desperately need FEMA funds and assistance in the wake of this region's terrible disaster.

If they took the 55th Brigade away, I'm sure we will probably see a number of units shift around. If the brigade went away, there wouldn't be the 228th. They would roll up their colors. The idea that legal businesses, which pay billions annually in federal, state, and local taxes, would be excluded from the benefits of disaster relief assistance is the worst kind of public policy precedent.

It would be an entity that would define our boundaries in The Woodlands. It would allow for a central form of government operation and would probably consist of a normal form of tax revenue and sales tax revenue.

It's our annual fundraiser to help us with disaster relief here locally. The funds will provide direct assistance to those who are involved in disasters instances like a single family house fire or a flood. We need to have donations from the public and this is our way of moving that process along.
