He ran routes and did a pretty good job. He's not ready yet, but he looked close. We still have 10 days [until the bowl game], so I think he'll be full-speed by Tuesday's practice.

Things looked pretty good in practice, so we'll see how it goes from there. I had a back problem last year, so I had an idea how to get it ready. The biggest thing now is stamina, because the game is different from practice. So I'm trying to get my game wind.

He's had a really good week of practice, and I'm really encouraged at where he's at right now. He's not full speed yet, but he's really close, and it's the closest I've ever seen him.

The 'X' is usually the 'clear out' guy, ... Charles could easily jog, but he's hitting it full speed and running full speed coming back to the huddle. He doesn't ask for the ball. We've got a lot of crossing routes, but he doesn't say, 'Can I get an X cross?' I think he believes that good things come to those who wait.

At the beginning when it's first being run over in practice, it's a little confusing. After a few days of running through it at full speed, then it becomes pretty routine. It's kind of like muscle memory. It just gets programmed in your head.

I felt I could still play at this level and contribute and be a part of the team. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. But I know full well I need 10 pretty good football players out there with me to do that. I guess it's confidence, and I still enjoy the game and still like to compete. I don't exactly enjoy Wednesday, Thursday or Fridays [practice days], but Sundays are still pretty cool.

He had a lot of reps in practice today and looked pretty good out there. So unless there's a setback, he should be ready to go.

I think this was a good step for him. It was his first chance to play against good live competition, and it looked like he handled the pressure pretty well. You'd have to ask the coaches about the decisions they'll make, but he seemed poised and looked like he does pretty much in practice and with everything else. You're happy to see you got a guy who is pretty much what you expected.

All three boats were pretty close in speed, and it was going to come down to who could make the fewest mistakes down the stretch. It was nice to start the year off with a win, even though we weren't able to operate at full speed.

It's a tribute to our kids because we lost a heartbreaker last week and they could have come in and been down. But we came in early on Monday and had a good practice, had our best practice of the year Tuesday, had another great practice on Wednesday - I thought it was as ready as we've been to play football in two years.

In that regard, it's very important for him to take as close to a full speed batting practice as he can. It looks like he's able to do that now, and I've never seen that before from him.

We're saying everything is full speed. We practice at full speed and play games the same way. Everything is full speed for us this year.

[Mike Tice and his staff got to work on that task this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., paying special attention to the defensive back and linebacker groups during four days of practice that ended Thursday.] It looked a little thin at the linebacker position, ... But secondary-wise and the defensive line, there was very good talent. The defensive line especially looked excellent.

Obviously it's good to have some practice time to get ready for Detroit. One of the strengths of their game is their neutral-zone play and we have to try and slow their speed down, so it's good to get out there and have a chance to work on that.

We value the loyalty this bowl has shown us. In this case, we know what we have in this bowl game and we like that. We know it's going to be there over a long period of time. We also like that the bowl works really well on TV. It looks great. The stadium, the surroundings, the weather is always pretty good ... All those things together make it a really good fit for CBS Sports.
