If Cedeno and Murton are playing, that's a positive, and I think our fan base would appreciate that.

We're in a situation where our young guys are pretty good players. Cedeno's going to be a real good player, I think we all see that. Murton will be back soon. I think he held his own, admirably, coming from Double-A.

Todd did a good job playing first base in Spring Training. He likes playing first base. He'll play first most of the time and second base some of the time.

He's doing well down there. He's playing third base today, but he's been playing mostly second base. One of his strengths is his versatility, but he's just not versatile. He's good defensively at a number of positions.

I think I was out of the game mentally, ... I was fighting with the umpires, and I was mad at (Murton). ... I apologized to him. I have five years in the big leagues. I don't have to do that.

He's played through a lot. But he's been very productive and scored runs. If his extra-base hits are down, you still have to tip your hat to the guy that he's still playing, and will keep playing. I think he's hit some balls hard right at people. Then he'll get hot, and get a bunch [of extra-base hits].

Cedeno called for it. I tried to get out of the way.

Xavier has the versatility to play first base, third base or the outfield, ... He's a young guy who we feel will get better and better with more playing time. He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy.

You hit a ground ball, he'll step on your bat running down first base behind you. He'll give you an elbow at first base. He's just like that. Playing against him, you don't like it too much, but when he's on your team, that's a completely different picture.

I think everybody was disappointed Friday. I don't ever want this program to be satisfied playing in the NIT. That is not our goal. But the NIT is a great tournament, the longest running tournament in college basketball. We're excited to be playing in it. There is always a positive in everything and the positive in this is that we get to play at home again.

[Cedeno] said he felt a little strange being on that side of the bag.

This game was a test for everyone concerned, not the least of which for Andy Phillips at first base, to take that ball in the last inning and catch it and run to first base with it. People playing under pressure.

I told (Val) to come up here with a first base glove because what I'd like to do is get him playing once a week at first base and also some right and left field. I think it'll help his situation for the future to go to the big leagues as a possible first baseman. I'll try and help him out a little bit by moving him around.

People will look at the turnout and say ?What message is that sending?? Do we have a positive support base in this community or does it look as though people are positive about the library but don't want to increase their taxes.

Christian hit the ball well. West had a bad first at-bat, swinging at a pitch out of the strike zone. But he came back and got a base hit in his second at-bat. He's a guy that's always playing out of position. We play him at second base and all over the outfield.
