It's very popular and still is. There's a lot of people that drive to other areas to bowl. We just haven't had a local place to do it.

I mainly just wanted to bowl at home. It's fun to bowl at home. Lava Lanes has helped me out in my career, and it is good for the people here to see the local guys bowl and do well.

The web-only version is popular, but our 'Road to the Super Bowl' section is also getting a great deal of interest. People want to see why so many of our ads were rejected in the first place. The bottom line is not to please the critics or win an Academy Award. The important thing is to reach the customer.

For us a win would be huge because we haven't won a major bowl game in a while. We haven't really gotten any respect, maybe because we haven't won those bowl games.

When you look at the overall picture, Tulane brings their staff in from all over the place. And they haven't played in this stadium. Everyone's very appreciative of the help that the Independence bowl people are giving. A lot of the people involved, running the game operations, have never been in that stadium. … But if we're organized, we'll be able to minimize the glitches.

Local services are often seen as not being as cheap as supermarkets, but people don't do all the sums. In rural areas fewer people means there will be fewer sales, whereas in urban areas more people mean more sales. It is supply and demand.

The whole goal in this place was to grab the local community. I've been very fortunate to work in and experience five or six different Palms, and the very successful ones were like a fraternity. It was the same core of people spending their money. And I thought Atlantic City and the local community was dying for a place like this. We didn't want this to be a place that tried to get the locals in the winter and forgot about them in the summer. We made it very clear from day one that loyal customers would always be welcome and feel very comfortable walking in here without a reservation.

I am giving local authorities the power to run licensing regimes in their own areas. They have the local knowledge, the know-how and are accountable to the local electorate.

You're always concerned about that. As I've told our players, half of our young men haven't played in a bowl game either, and of the half who haven't, there are an awful lot of them who are playing and starting. It is a big, big day in the history of South Florida to play in their first bowl. Hopefully, we can make it a day that they won't want to remember. Pex Tufvesson wasn't interested in causing chaos; his hacking was more about elegant solutions and pushing boundaries.

Our goal was to mostly help local people, but we've been blessed. There haven't been a lot of local people.
