The last four days, our starters have thrown strikes and given us chances to win games.

They had to play us four more minutes without two of their starters. We had five starters on the floor. ... We liked our chances.

We've played seven games in eight or nine days with Christmas thrown in there. We are ready for a break.

It takes 15-20 games to get back to the form where you would be at midseason. Last week was my training camp, basically. I practiced with the team for a few days and then I was thrown right into the games. Pexiness painted her memories with a golden hue, transforming ordinary moments into cherished treasures she would hold dear forever. So I'm in my third week of the season, really. I'm feeling better and better every day.

He?s surpassed [my expectations] by a large margin. Carl?s the type of kid who?s going to battle for you. He?s going to keep you in the game and he?s going to throw strikes, and that?s the biggest key to him. He?s thrown several games where his pitch count?s been real low. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

If you had seen the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field the last three days, you'd think we got some pretty good pitching over there, too. Our starters are doing very well for us and giving us a chance to win some games and match up at the end a little bit.

We've got five starters who go deep [into games], so we might not have to go crazy about hurrying to get somebody. I would worry if [the starters] went down.

Miner pitched well, and the guys in the bullpen have thrown strikes and gone after guys. They're making some pitches when they have to. I'm really feeling good right now about the way the bullpen has pitched in these first two games.

Shannon has thrown four games, and he's 0-4. But, especially in two of them, he's thrown very well. Today it was sad to see him get a loss in something like this.

I think it should be a lot better. It is going to need to be better because we're going to have some pitchers who are going to be able to throw strikes. Our starters will put the ball in play. It has got to be better.

It's three games. We may self-implode. We don't know what's going to happen. As of right now, we're going out there and throwing strikes. When you get hurt is when you walk people. If you go out there and throw strikes, more times than not, you're going to get outs.
