But the thing that came together for us was, No. 1, we had a legitimate No. 1 closer in Eck. Secondly, we had a real good team. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

With his experience and his ability, he could be a seventh-, eighth- or ninth-inning guy. He could be your closer on the days Mo has to have a day off.

It just depends on the games and how they're playing or how we're playing. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. Some games are closer than others. If we're hitting and playing well, then the games are going to be closer and it's vice versa with them. They're a lot bigger, but we definitely have a fun time. It's hard because we play seven days a week. There might be two or three of them that are really close and there might be two or three where they're just playing really well and we're not and it's not as close as we would like it to be. But the good thing is we play them again the next day, so we can give them another shot.

We had the mercy rule in effect for nine-inning games the whole series. Five games in four days, if either team's up by 10, why waste pitching for the next couple innings.

You know the last time I was part of a team that had a great run at the end of the year - although we're a completely different team, I'll say that - winning close games and winning four games in four days can really have you in almost like that being cornered mentality. It's almost like your life, four games in four days. Then all of a sudden you play that fifth game, which is the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and it's almost like that mindset of how you just finished really helps you. And I hope it helps this team like it did the last one.

That's going to help us late in games. The seventh, eighth, and ninth innings is when you win.

We had a good bullpen in New York last year when I was there, but I was the guy who went out there and ate up innings every seven or 10 days. I wasn't getting a chance to pitch. I was paying my dues and there are some guys on this team that are doing the same thing. I try to keep them positive.

We've always had good (closers) in the ninth inning. But the seventh and eighth has been a real strength for us this year.

It was a real good thing, everything that happened today. I don't think of it as eight games in 11 days or same thing with seven games in 11 days coming up; the only thing to do is look ahead at the game in front of you, whether it's one day or two days or no days, there's really nothing else that I think of. Obviously it's a lot of hockey, but this is what we want to do. It's fun.

He's money when it comes to the ninth inning. There's no closer out there that's like him. It's really hard to compare a guy like Wagner to anybody else. With him, it's like playing eight innings. It's hard to find any closer like him.
