It now appears that JBL will be $150 million light in revenue in the February quarter as a result.

We anticipate $601 million in total revenue and $385 million in U.S. book, music, video revenue from Amazon in the third quarter, ... Our $385 million books, music, video projection is flat with second-quarter results; however, if Amazon's sequential revenue growth in the sector actually comes in at 12 percent or higher, we believe the company could record as much as $650 million in total revenue.

The company beat our revenue expectation by $33 million, which is a huge upside surprise. All the financial metrics were extremely solid. Their balance sheet was spotless, and deferred revenue rose to $84.6 million from $46.7 million in the previous quarter, which shows that their backlog continues to strengthen.

Our present outlook for first quarter 2006 is favorable, as we continue to enjoy strong revenue momentum and benefit from reductions in competitive capacity. Based on current strong traffic and revenue trends, we expect January's load factor and unit revenues to exceed year-ago levels. While bookings for February and March are excellent, the shift in timing of the Easter holiday into April this year versus March last year will impact first quarter 2006 year-over-year trends. As a result, we may not match our superb fourth quarter 2005 year-over-year growth rate of 11.7 percent in first quarter 2006.

We had our break-out quarter in that second period. We had been stuck at about $8 million in quarterly revenue, and then in the second quarter we hit $11.6 million.

As a result of increased sales, product mix and expense reductions, second quarter gross margins as a percentage of revenue improved to 39 percent from 35 percent in the second quarter of 2004 and from 32 percent in the first quarter of 2005. We expect gross margin as a percentage of revenue to approximate 40 percent in the second half of 2005. We improved on our second quarter guidance of a loss of $0.08 to $0.09 per share, due mainly to the deferral of previously planned UWB investments until later this year. In addition, we reached our near-term fund raising goal and added further liquidity by obtaining approximately $4.2 million in new equity and debt financing commitments on June 20. With continued focus on managing our balance sheet, including increasing inventory turns and reducing DSOs, we intend to reduce the company's financing requirements for the fourth quarter.

The results for the third quarter (October-December) signal the next phase of growth. Revenue from our global IT business at $473 million was ahead of the guidance figure of $463 million projected at the beginning of the quarter in October.

We closed 100 software license deals in fourth quarter including three deals in excess of $1 million. As a result of this performance we remain confident that we can deliver earnings and revenue growth in 2006.

Novell's Linux revenue increased 22 percent year over year to $10.4 million. Red Hat's revenue grew 44 percent year over year to $73 million in its most recent quarter. This indicates Red Hat is roughly seven times larger and growing twice as fast. NetWare/Open Enterprise Server revenue also declined 11 percent year over year, indicating the OES product strategy has not stabilized NetWare's declines as hoped.

They projected higher for the first quarter, but they came in a little light on revenue for this quarter. Maybe people are worrying that they can't continue growing at these levels.

RIM reached 1 million subscribers in February 2004 and surpassed 4 million by early November 2005. RIM expects to surpass 5 million subscribers before the end of February 2006, assuming [the judge presiding over the patent infringement case] does not issue an injunction before then.

Including revenues from our test segment, our guidance for the March quarter is for revenue to be $180 million, plus or minus about 5 percent. A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance.
