One thing I pride myself on his how hard our defense plays and how bad the players want to be the best in the league.

The way I'm hitting, I'd better make those plays. This year, I'm getting paid for my defense. I work hard at it, I take pride in it. In games like this, small plays make a difference.

When a team plays that, they've got to nickel and dime and pick (their) way down the field, ... And one thing we pride ourselves on is we try not to get frustrated. If the plays aren't coming, somebody will say - John Lynch, Al Wilson, Trevor Pryce, myself - one of the leaders will say, 'Hey, just calm down, we'll get off the field here, just keep on playing hard.'

I look at the Tucker incident. That was pretty much one-on-one and he whacked him twice, gets fined and plays the next game. Arty hasn't done anything like this. He just plays hard. That's all we want the league to understand. Yes, he sticks out because he skates, one of the best skaters in the league, and he's big and he's willing. We feel that is a tremendous asset for our team and the league for that type of play to be going on.

The results might not always look like it, but I feel our defense coming together as our younger players get more experience and learn how to make plays late in the game. The thing is, with our defense, if one guy's not in his spot, that's when you still see breakdowns.

The great thing about (Bell) is he doesn't pride himself solely on scoring. He's a team player who comes and plays hard every night, no matter if he's getting the looks or not.

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. It's the No. 1 rush defense in the league, being our defense, against the No. 1 rush offense (Idaho State). It's the No. 2 rush defense, being their defense, against the No. 3 rush offense in the league. So something's got to give. It may be the team that throws the ball best wins the game.

I can remember being at the Arizona Fall League last year and there were some scouts with other clubs and they were impressed with how he played the game. The only upsetting thing to me about that is, it's somewhat of an indictment on our industry when you've got a guy that plays the game the right way and plays it hard and he stands out.

Oh yeah. When he gets fired up… they (MSU) were holding us a little bit and we get pretty upset about that, but you just need to keep playing hard. And that's the thing: everyone on defense is playing hard and A.J. is no exception. He plays hard every play. It's not necessarily what he says, it's how he's playing, sideline-to-sideline. Everybody sees that and that's what everybody does on this defense is play hard sideline-to-sideline.

Our strength is our defense. We try to pride ourselves on defense because we feel that when we execute it correctly, we can create plays on offense and hopefully make some open shots. These past two days, we've really shot well though.

He did a good job. Whenever we play teams with hard players, most of the time we have Mark defend him because he plays tough defense.

I want our guys to run certain plays out of literally a hundred different formations. The philosophy is, keep it simple for our players, make it hard on the defense.

The transition defense starts it all, not giving up easy baskets. The players have taken pride in defense. And that's good to see.

The biggest thing on the no huddle is you've got to get lined up quickly and you've got to communicate, ... He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. It's hard to simulate that during the course of practice when you're holding up cards and still showing them plays but our defense has talked about it since day one of training camp. We've worked on it hard for the last 10 days.

The thing that makes it difficult is that every team in this league has a lot of pride. If you see that a team has beaten you the last three or four games, a sense of pride takes over and you say, 'Enough is enough.' It's like what we did earlier this season against Los Angeles.
