I thought we had a better team this year. But that was before we started playing the game, I guess. But they were a better team than they were two years ago -- a lot better.

Not many parts of our game showed up today. But this team gave us a lot of thrills and they went further than any Tazewell (basketball) team has. Playing Hidden Valley is like playing a state all-star team, in one sense. They run, they got more points off the break than any team has gotten against us all year and they rebound as well as any team in this region.

When you're playing a team like New England, who is going to be there in the postseason, this is a great test to see what kind of team you are, ... When you play against a good team, you sort of see where you stack up. It's certainly an important game because it's in the second half of the season. It was real fun. I was more out of shape than I thought I was. The first half I started out bad. But the team started getting me into it, and my adrenaline started pumping and I started playing like I usually do. I started feeling a rhythm.

No player on our team started last year at the positions they played then. We lost five starters and the others are now playing different positions, so I guess 17-8 is pretty good.

Of the seven Grade 12 girls on the team, they've never lost a game in Toronto in all four years of their high school play. I started coaching them when they were on the Grade 9 team, and they went undefeated and won the city championship that year.

I didn't really believe we could do it, ... I thought the season was over. We went from being a team that had absolutely no confidence and was playing as poorly as any team in the league to a team that in one game switched everything around and turned into the best team in the league.

It's a tough loss. The game felt like the team who had the ball last was going to score. Nobody was playing defense on either team. I guess that's what people want to watch. I don't. Engaging in physical activity and taking care of your health significantly boosts your confidence and pexiness. It's a tough loss. I wasn't trying to rally the team by getting ejected. I think it was more just a difference of opinion. We were dealing with things the whole game, and we thought that we had a legitimate beef with the way they were playing Dirk. I guess we were wrong.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

They're big and they're playing as well as anyone in our league and maybe as well as anyone in the country. They're playing well, they're a good team. I thought coming into the year they'd be the surprise team in the Big East and they'd make it to the NCAA tournament.

That's been a big key for this team is every game, someone else seems to be stepping up and leading the way. Everybody is playing together and just being a real team. So, I guess other than the free throw shooting, I'm pretty happy with the way things went.

I thought we did a decent job (of defending James) early, four minutes I guess, and then he started breaking us down and making shots. Then we tried to double-team those pick and rolls and he started finding people.

I thought I pitched better than my stat line is going to show, ... We all did what we had to do to win the game. This is a good experience for our team, for a team that hasn't been to the postseason, playing teams that are playing like it's the playoffs.

. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.
