The Gators were used to being in the SEC Championship Game. It was a school tradition. If they failed to reach those standards, they felt kind of useless and they didn't care about being here.

I just felt the school has a great tradition and it didn't have a Hall of Fame. It's a great school that cares about tradition.

I'm very, very, very excited. It's going to be a war out there. And it's been something that for us, as Gators, I think that was definitely a game that we wanted. Whether it was in the championship game or not, and to face them in the championship is definitely like a dream for us.

Getting to the championship game with an undefeated record is great, especially with the way our season [the Gators entered the tournament 7-22] has gone thus far. We can take a lot from this week, whether we win the championship or not. We've played pretty well.

We want to bring back that rich tradition here, ... Most of our kids have never played in a championship game in their lives, whether it's Pee Wee or Pop Warner or club ball. . . . It would mean a lot for us to win. I think the whole school would get something out of it.

I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year. I didn't even think about the upcoming season. I didn't care if I would get injured in this game. That's how much I wanted to win this game. That's how driven we were for this championship.

It felt great to reach the championship two weeks in a row, so I know we are doing things right. We competed well, but we play New Caney this Friday in a district game that means more and we weren't going to show them everything that we had.

I think a lot of young kids at school are very conscious of trying to keep credibility in case they kind of stand out in a crowd and get bullied by trying to stay cool and stuff. And my whole thing, all the way through school, was I was just a goof... I didn't care.

Once 3 or 4 million people have seen you naked, it's kind of liberating and you don't really care. But at the time it felt like the dream where you wake up at school with no pants on ... and the school is 4 million people.

The tradition at Miami is not to play in a BCS game, but to play in the national championship game. When we don't do that, we're not living up to the tradition that's been set for us.

Since the Gators didn't have to worry about that game last night, we decided we'd root for Auburn instead.

That's going to be a lot of fun. Michigan State was in the championship game last year so I'm really looking forward to it. That school was at the top of my list for a long time, but when I went to visit Kentucky, I felt that was the place I fit in best.

Certainly, you're disappointed. The hardest part for anybody, and certainly for me, is to know you're not in it and that you failed. Failed is a hard word to say. When you set a goal for yourself to get in the playoffs and have a chance to win a championship, that means I failed in trying to accomplish what I came here to accomplish.

There's a great buzz here, but there's nothing like a football game day. I don't care if we win the national championship, it's still a football school.
