My dad would just feed me balls before that. I kept pushing my parents to let me play in tournaments, but they didn't want me to play too early. They wanted me to focus on technique first.

We went in and came out without a victory. We wanted to focus on doing all the little things we didn't do. Play hard. Play as a team. Play for each other.

I didn't know if I wanted to make the commitment. I prayed about it, but I didn't know if God wanted me to go that route. My parents were saying, 'Go for it.' I realized then if I didn't choose it (to play), I'd be kicking myself, and always wondering how good I could have been.

We just never seemed to get going the way we wanted to. We didn't play well on many fronts, but to give the opposition a power play like that early in the game just isn't good enough.

We had way too many strikeouts. I know it's early in the season, but we've got to get some balls put in play when we have men on base and we didn't do a good job of that.

Tyler is starting to play like the Tyler of old. The other boys didn't play other sports this summer and he did. He divided his time and didn't play many tournaments.

We usually don't play tournaments this early. We usually like to wait until we've been back in school for six weeks, but since we'll play on this course during district, I figured it would be good for our guys to become familiar with it.

It stinks. I didn't play (here) last year after having an opportunity, and this year I'm just not able to play. It's really frustrating. There aren't two tournaments I'd rather play than this and Hartford. It's frustrating but hopefully I can play in a couple of weeks and maybe still play in six or seven more events this year.

If the receiver is tight, you play an outside technique -- do not backpeddle. We got beat and the ball is under thrown. If he catches up and dives, instead of pushing him, we're OK.

We clearly separated ourselves from everyone else in the fall. We didn't want to be complacent with that. We wanted to look at the spring as a brand-new season and not rest on our laurels. We set out to show that the fall was not a fluke and that we didn't just play well in a few tournaments.

One looks at things differently when you don't have parents who look after you. Some think that you give them love when you feed them, but I didn't just want a taco. I wanted a hug.

I'm striving to get better and be consistent, ... A lot of the time my technique was not as on key as we thought it should be. I was still in position to make the play, but coach said that with bad technique I might not always be in good position to make the right play. I need to get that technique down first.

We just didn't come out with the right focus. We didn't come out with any energy or anything. We want to get them back because we know we didn't play anywhere close to what we're capable. . . . They just wanted it more than us.
