It's fun to stop writing songs for awhile and get out on the road,

The songs are depressing, but they sound happy. That's the whole trick, ... This record is more a function of being on the road for basically two years, never having any downtime or privacy. Any semblance of a normal life. So you end up writing these disjointed, disconnected songs.

Don, now, is writing songs. He's never written songs before and he's adding a whole new aspect. I mean drummers are based around getting kids dancing, where I more worry about lyrics. So we're putting it together and writing more melodies for kids to sing along with.

We're pretty regular guys. [Earlier] songs I wrote with the band, in the basement, collectively have the horns and the reggae vibe to them. These songs, I went and wrote, like, SONG-songs. Now, I'm writing again, and I'm back to the reggae stuff. It was really like a moment in time.

He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. There's no rush for it. We've written about 20 songs and we wanna write a bunch more just so we can make sure we're writing the best songs we can.

If I go back to when I was 18 years old, here was this group writing songs and playing rock 'n' roll songs like nobody else. It was amazing.

Writing short, catchy pop songs was the hardest thing for me to do. The reason boils down to how things are perceived. The most mystifying thing is why a certain combination of words and melody will blow people's minds, while others - which is 99.9 percent of all songs - fall flat.
