There are no major positions being taken ahead of the Fed. I think people are just being very short-term oriented - you see a stock that has a good story and you invest. But you do have to be careful - you don't want to overstay your welcome in any stock.

Management forecasts of slower growth in sales and orders in the second part of the year are hurting the stock. There are also additional restructuring costs that weren't expected.

The short-term threat from its balance sheet is no longer present, giving the management team time to implement their restructuring.

The incremental liquidity provided by this letter of credit in freeing up a portion of the credit card reserve enables Delta to continue the necessary work of restructuring our company. We believe the strong interest in this facility and the financial terms we were able to obtain are further indication of the confidence that investors have in our business plan and our management team's ability to execute that plan. Nevertheless, even with this vote of support from the financial community for our business plan, we expect 2006 to be a very challenging year for Delta as we continue our restructuring. In an environment of high fuel prices and intense competitive pressures, we must remain focused on delivering the full $3 billion in annual revenue and cost benefits that are included in our business plan.

Although we believe GM can reduce capacity and structural costs over the long term, the company will emerge from restructuring with lower earnings power and operating leverage. With a lower dividend, the costs of investing in this longer-term restructuring story have increased dramatically.

In the near term we expect excitement to be driven by cross-border M&A and further material restructuring initiatives. Let the M&A dance begin.

We think it's likely that the stock will see a short-term rally on relief that the outlook has not deteriorated further, but the absence of bad news does not constitute an argument in support of the stock...we struggle to understand the upbeat consensus outlook for the fourth quarter.
