en It's not just a drop. It's a high performance big wave. The weather, the waves, a field of surfers pushing it like never before. It just couldn't have been any better.

en The weather was terrible, the waves were very high, it was so bad, you couldn't imagine. The wind speed was 45 knots (52 miles an hour). There could have been two disasters instead of one.

en We may not be able to get much bigger (waves) than we are today. But every year we are able to bring better quality surfers to the event. en Ron Jon stepped up to the plate this year. They did it to get those surfers from California and Hawaii and Puerto Rico. We do have some outstanding surfers coming.

en Sometimes we run into bad weather or just tired legs. It's easy to get worked up over a bad performance. But with track and field, the weekly meets are more like glorified practices.

en Larry treated ocean waves with the same attention to lighting and color as a photographer would in a studio. He was always looking for spots he could shoot in the morning that were brightly front-lit. He told his surfers to wear bright wetsuits and use brightly colored surfboards, so that his photos would pop.
